If you are running Vista and have Scoresaver 2 installed in c:\program files\scoresaver 2, you can occasionally lose your data. This is because Vista "virtualises" any data files in c:\program files to a different location if User Access Control is switched on (which it is by default unless you've switched it off).
This location is C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Scoresaver 2\Data where XXXX is your Windows login name.
The above is a hidden/system folder in Windows so you'll need to change the view options in My Computer to allow you to see and access this folder.
Look in this folder for files called beta.edb or beta.edb0 or beta.edb1 etc. One of these files will contain your up to date data whereas the file beta.edb in c:\program files\scoresaver 2\data, which you would expect to contain your up to date data, will probably only contain the 4 demo players that are shipped with Scoresaver 2. Thanks Microsoft, another great decision.
If you find any of these beta.* files, copy the most recent one to a different folder, then run Scoresaver 2 and click Import and Export. Select the copied beta file and this should import your data.
To avoid any of this hassle, either:
- Stick with XP
- Switch off User Access Control
- Boycott Microsoft completely
- Install Scoresaver 2 to a location other than c:\program files.
